Wet jointing vs Dry jointing - Advantages, differences and applications
Fogging is a method of dispersing a fine mist of sanitizer into the air, and is effectively used to combat bacteria, viruses, mould and bad odors in various environments. But what makes wet mopping different from dry mopping? And which method is most suitable for different needs? Here we look at the differences, benefits and best uses of each method.
What is wet jointing?
Wet mopping is a method where a wet mopping machine sprays a liquid, often a disinfectant or sanitizing solution, into the air in the form of very small droplets. These droplets spread quickly and can penetrate hard-to-reach spaces and surfaces.
Because it is a liquid, it can form a thin, disinfectant film on surfaces that effectively kills bacteria, viruses and molds. The method is often used in environments such as hospitals, hotels or the food industry.
Advantages of wet jointing
- Kills bacteria, viruses and mold spores.
- Creates a disinfectant film on surfaces.
- Good for large spaces like hospitals, warehouses and homes.
Disadvantages of wet mopping
- May leave behind moisture that needs to dry.
- Often requires surfaces to be wiped down afterwards.
- Some risk of spreading allergens or chemicals during use.
What is dry sweeping?
Dry sweeping differs in that a decontaminant is heated and vaporized into a fine smoke or mist, where the particles are dry and extremely small. This allows them to penetrate small cracks, textiles and other hard-to-reach spaces without leaving moisture or residue.
Dry sweeping is particularly useful for odor neutralization or pest control, as the particles do not affect surfaces in the same way as liquids do.
Advantages of dry sweeping
- Effective against bad odors in textiles, furniture and ventilation.
- Leaves no residue or moisture on surfaces.
- Can be used for pest control, for example against bed bugs.
Disadvantages of dry sweeping
- Not as effective for disinfecting surfaces.
- Often requires good ventilation after application.
- May cause discomfort or irritation if exposed to the mist for long periods.
Which method should you choose?
The choice between wet and dry mopping depends on the problem you want to solve. If you need to disinfect a surface and eliminate bacteria or mold, wet mopping is usually the best option. On the other hand, if you want to neutralize bad odours or control pests in hard-to-reach areas, dry mopping may be more effective.

To achieve the best possible results, it is crucial to choose the right type of disinfectant and sanitizer for the specific need. Depending on whether you are disinfecting surfaces, neutralizing odours or controlling pests, the choice of product and method plays a major role in its effectiveness.
